And born in the USA, which is a Metal country.
There ya go! The only thing you're missing is Earth, so had you been born to a Chinese family, your name would contain 'earthy' characters or be an 'earthy' name so as to balance you out. -

Mon, March 14, 2005 - 2:13 PMThe US Govt was formed in a Monkey year. That's how it's generally done-now the question with other nations is when did the current regime come into power, if that constituted a truly major shift in government. For China, I'd just ask a Chinese Astrologer...are we talking Imperial China, Republican China, Socialist China, etc, etc. I used to have an Atlas that had dates like that for different nations. I say used to...it's probably in a box in storage, I just haven't been able to find it for the last 4 years. B asically, you need a poly-sci book and a Chinese ephemeris. -

Re: Snakes?
Fri, June 18, 2004 - 12:29 PMI was born in the year of the Fire Snake
and month of the Wood Snake. Two snakes in a chart takes tens of thousands of years of cultivation. They begin to dance in a spiral (which can be seen as the modern medical insignia). They sprout a wing each and learn how to fly together. Eventualy they join as one and become a snake with wings, a Wivryn. This is a very baby dragon before it evolves claws. To evolve a fifth claw as a dragon means you are the strongest of the signs and cannot be defeated.. even by the clever monkey..... -

Re: Snakes?
Fri, January 28, 2005 - 11:51 AMIt seems that snakes are very calculating. They wait to make a move until they have really thought things through. Sometimes snakes are underestimated because they do not enter into every contest and they do not boast of every win. The snake does not let others know what they are capable of until they strike. The thing about snakes is that when they strike they never miss. When they compete they do not lose. This calculated tactic is sometimes mistaken for laziness when in fact it is just the opposite. The advantagous snakes may seem like they are sleeping at times when in fact they are very observant and know exactly what is going on. Snakes use the data they collect to determine exactly what the best course of action is. When snakes spring into action they are unstoppable. Everything the snake does is elaborately planned. Snakes get what they want even if it seems they are not. It is nearly impossible to beat the strategy of a snake for they are not only observant but also intuitive. Snakes can be exceptionally charming if they chose to and get exactly what they are after. The only delay in total world domination of the snake is for the snake to make the choice and decide what they are after. The minute the decision is made the battle is over. The battle is purely making the decision to decide where to focus. -

Re: Snakes?
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 12:46 AMhi. I noticed you when I initially joined this site 01 jan 2006. I felt compelled to respond because I thought that your analysis is so perceptive, accurate and quite flattering. Sometimes when reading about our sign I feel most authors, although unable to deny our superiority, dont particularly like snakes, or think we succeed by superficial means. Anyway, I just wanted to compliment your comments, and rant a little
T
P.S. Are you still with the monkey? I'm madly in love with one (my ex and son's father) I've read that snake/monkey is a perfect (although unlikely) match, however; I've found only two (out of dozens) astrologers that feel this way. Most agree it is a terrible match. Any comments? -

Re: Snakes?
Sun, January 30, 2005 - 9:15 PMShoot! That didn't work either... Here is what is says:
Your Lucky Element
Time Zone: -8 city Longitude: 122.08- Gender : Female
Birth Year: 1977 Month: 12 Day: 29 Hour: 8 Minute: 5
The following is your birth chart. You are White Monkey, born in the year of Red Snake. The first character in DAY represents you. So you are equivalent to Metal.
Hour (kids) Day (you) Month (parents) Year (ancestor)
Male Metal Male Metal Male Water Female Fire
White Dragon White Monkey Black Rat Red Snake
Your birth chart was generated using the Chinese Stem-Branch Calendar system. The Stems, upper row in the chart, are Five Elements which are Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. The Branches, lower row in the chart, are 12 animal names which are related to Five Elements. The following Five Elements distribution chart is produced from your birth chart.
Five elements Metal (you) Water (kids) Wood (money) Fire (job) Soil (mom)
Total 83 260 13 23 24
Here we select an element from the Five Element chart as your Lucky Element. The Chinese Yin-Yang Five Elements describe the BALANCE. When the Five Elements are balanced, they are in harmony and you will be lucky. When they are out of balance, they are in conflict and cause you trouble. So your lucky elements are the ones that bring the Five Elements into balance. Usually the lucky elements are the ones with a lesser weight (score). Here we want to pick Wood as your lucky element, because your Five Elements have a better shape when the weight of Wood increases. Using the balance theory, we can predict the rise and fall of your entire life. -

Re: Snakes?
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 6:02 AMWell, Butterfly, the system you've run into is a variant of the one I use (or vice versa...which came first, who knows?) My primary resource is the "Handbook of Chinese Astrology" by Theodora Lau, which is kinda the "Linda Goodman's Sun Signs" of Chinese Astrology. Well-respected. Notice this paragraph from the website:
"The following is your birth chart. You are White Monkey, born in the year of Red Snake. The first character in DAY represents you. So you are equivalent to Metal.
Hour (kids) Day (you) Month (parents) Year (ancestor)
Male Metal Male Metal Male Water Female Fire
White Dragon White Monkey Black Rat Red Snake"
This system uses almost all the same stuff that I do, but puts it in a different order, and gives color names to the animals.
Male metal (USA is Metal) Male Metal (Hours of the Dog-Metal) Male Water (Ox is water) Female Fire (1977 was a yin Fire Snake year). This sytem omits the fixed element of the Snake, which in your case is the same as the moveable one: yin Fire.
Where they pull the "White Dragon White Monkey Black Rat Red Snake" stuff from I have no idea. Just as Western Astrology has many different methods that were developed over time, so does Chinese Astrology. This is an example of two different systems. -

Re: Snakes?
Sun, February 20, 2005 - 8:43 PMWhen was that edition of Handbook of Chinese Astrology published?
I used to have a copy of T. Lau's book--and she IS one of the best, clearest writers on the subject. The edition I had did not mention the color references to the element. Nor did she get introduce how the hour/day/month/year related to your family and fortune (that I found in a later book by another author--but rather convoluted explanations).
Thanks for mentioning the book--will look it up to see if it is still in print!
When did you first gain an interest in western and eastern astrology?

Re: Snakes?
Fri, February 25, 2005 - 3:06 PMDani, are you at it again? (shaking head slowly from side to side) Horse women...sheesh. And you KNOW by now that I want hour of birth, too.
On the surface, the Snake boy/Horse girl match is probably not going to be a long one. Their approach to life is diametrically opposed. Snakes are cautious, Horses impulsive. She's irrepressible, he has a deeply serious side.
He is, however a fire Snake. That means he's more energetic, sensual and active than the usual Snake, with even more charisma. But he's also much more suspicious (and insanely jealous) than the average Snake, and prone to condemn people for every little thing. He may also tend to be extremely self-absorbed. Be careful: all Snakes harbor grudges, and fire Snakes show any emotion they show passionately.
And you're an earth Horse. Happy and congenial, but your distaste for 'making up your mind' will probably make him furious. While earth Horses can toe the line and settle down when they absolutely HAVE to, I'll bet you'll cut and run when your Snake lays down the law. And he will, he's a Snake. We Snaky types do that; sooner or later he'll want a committment from any partner (and any kind of partner) he's with.
You do the math, my sweet little Horsie friend. -

Re: Snakes?
Fri, February 25, 2005 - 5:21 PMTrue, true...you're always at it. It's one of the reasons we love you. ;) Beware of trying to master this particular Snake. A) It won't happen, and B) the backlash could be particularly nasty. Have lotsa fun, but make sure you go your own ways while it's still fun. Don't forget the warning about grudges-this Snake will come back from the dead to exact his revenge if you piss him off badly enough. And Snakes can be deviously vengeful, I know-I am one (but I'm a water Snake, not nearly as evil when thwarted).
Thwarted...y'know you just don't get to use that word often enough anymore. Thwart, thwart, thwart, thwart, thwart. Ah, there, that feels better.
Dani, one of these days you'll find yourself a nice water Dog, born in the hours of the Sheep and the month of the Snake. Despite all the fire (the first 4 of his elements are fire, water, fire, fire), and maybe because of it, you'll be hooked. And so will he.

Fri, March 25, 2005 - 6:52 PMi find myself being manipulative in ways that even i don't realize, until after the fact. and well, possessive...
no, i'm not possessive of anyone who doesn't want to be
possessed
in the first place. hehe, sometimes people are just ASKING for it.
but really tho, i'm not intentionally manipulative, but i find that i put myself most often in the position of the one who, if i don't at least have power over the other person in a relationship, then
i am the one with the power and likelihood to walk away.

Libra / Snake
THE ENCHANTING CRUSADER
Magnetism personified. The Libra born in a Snake year will, above all, attract. This combination is a mostly happy one. People born under this sign may be less so. This is because they are not only irresistible; they are also stubborn and willful. They want things done their way, and like to order others around subtly. Often, things are done for them, their way, by willing lackeys. These people have charisma to burn. Libran Snakes rule others through emotion. They are capable of sensing exactly what another needs from them. They are remarkably perceptive and even have a gift for the supernatural. Librans born in Snake years know how to exalt an audience with their cool, reasonable yet emphatically sentimental discourse. These people are born to serve as shepherds of human flocks, moralizers and brotherhood mongers. In private, they are all love, sensuality, sexiness and grand romance. Too gorgeous to be forever faithful, they still make marvelous mates. Libra/Snake sex is luscious, intimate and slightly other worldly. The mood may be languorous , but the technique is definitely...

Aries / Snake
THE BEWITCHING INNOVATOR
This person is beautiful to look at and a pleasure to be with. Yet, inside, a Snake born Aries suffers pangs of contradiction. Does she tend the little fire or burn brightly with the big blazing one? Fiery Aries always wants to rush out and do and go and experience. The chilly Snake wants, on the other hand, to sit back and ponder, intuit and judge whilst warming her toes before her tiny fire. Whichever of her influences happens to be feeling stronger on any given day gets the upper hand. There's a dark sensuality about this subject which...

Re: Snakes?
Tue, April 17, 2007 - 2:32 PMI'm curious as to which factors are the most important in Chinese astrology.
For example: year - water tiger
month - earth monkey
day - metal snake
hour - wood horse
Which of these placements is considered the most important in a Chinese chart? Or are they of equal value? By which I mean is the day more important than the year, hour more important than the month, etc? How is a full chart calculated?
Thanks -
-
Re: Snakes?
Wed, April 18, 2007 - 4:46 AMHecate, there are more than one system in Chinese Astrology, so the answer will depend on a few things. Which system are you talking about, and are you asking in regards to traditional or modern?
For example, the system I use does not include the day of birth, but does include the country of birth. In this system, while it's impossible to say that any one placement is 'most important' as you can't do a reading without any of them, you can say that country of birth is least important (it's only used to look at the overall balance of the reading) and that the ascendant (hour of birth) is critical because of how it affects the reading of the year. Month of birth adds important details, but you can get a fairly accurate reading without it.
How is a full chart calculated? Once again, depends on the system. Luckily for me, I just do basic readings and never have to calculate a full chart. That would take a small library of books, charts & ephemeri and a strong fluency in classical written Chinese. -

Re: Snakes?
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 6:59 PMSome of the masters say the heavenly stem on the day you were born and the earthly branch of the year are the most important. This goes along with Chinese Medicine and other world philosophies that say your spirit (the Heavenly Stem) enters the body on the day you are born. While the body (the Earthly Branch) has been forming that year. -

Snakes? What about it, part of balance!
Thu, September 27, 2007 - 3:50 PMU would be all interested to know that Serpent (not snake) is considered in ancient china the simbol of fertility and wisdom, it represents spring, because when serpents leave they hibernated state it means that the winter is gonne and the fields are ready to be farmed! Yes, Serpents are charming, have calculative mind, but are terrible liars, at least for Boars like my self. Well, Serpent is fire, Boars (equivelent to Scorpio) are water, wich controles fire, its interesting to observe that in the oposition Serpent/ Boar, were shocks frequently occur because the water (Boar), intuitive and charming, is able to penetrate fire's (Serpent) spirit and erase it? Water is pacient, even when evaporises it remains, is destructive, it is in fact the element of destruction, did u know that? Well, by the way, did u know that what really counts in Oriental astrology is the personal element plus the secret animal (wich represents what u truly are)? I found many behavior coincidences in people that had the same personal element but completly entire diferent signs! Intresting wouldn't u say? Well, i'm a water Boar, born in the hour of the metal Serpent (deep down i' am a Serpent) and in the day of the metal Monkey, my personal element is Metal, cuts straigh! Its element of power!
Just wanted to share some of my knowledge with ya! -

Re: Snakes? What about it, part of balance!
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 1:06 AMSorry about that...accidently hit submit! So how does the being born when the farming season is down effect a person?
Like for instance.... I am born on June 23rd.... Under the sign of the Ox.... People don't work around that time of the year... It is known as the time to warship the sun, as it is at its peak...
I am born on the day of the Black Snake, Year of the Wood Oxen, hour and month of the horse... How does that one work out? -

Re: Snakes? What about it, part of balance!
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 8:19 PMThe Leo snake has to balance his outwardly cool exterior with the raging wild animal within. Luckily I am a yin water serpent leo with a rat ascendant saturn in Libra moon in capricorn gemini rising mars in cancer venus in gemini oh I'm a sexy slithering "black" serpent no mistake! Re: Snakes?
Sat, April 4, 2009 - 7:46 PMA gemini? Well you should probably run for office you'd certainly get elected! Seriously. My niece is a Gemini snake and I work with one at well work. Gemini snakes are really delicate flowers by comparison to other people and are very well liked except by filthy pigs who make fun of them. I really admire you for being able to and getting out of bed every day. The world isn't really good enough for you and you know it. The wood dragon influence should however allow a lot of self-compassion so as to help somewhat in this area. BE VERY CAREFUL OF PIGS. Lee Harvey Oswald was a rotten filthy pig and John F Kennedy was a Gemini snake. Word to the wise. -

Re: Snakes?
Wed, June 17, 2009 - 6:25 AMI'm born on the year of Fire Snake but I feel more like the Rooster.
Year: Fire Snake
Month: Water Ox
Day: Water Snake
Hour: Metal Rooster.
fun fact: Marilyn Monroe was born in the hour of the Water Snake and in the month of Water Snake as well.
Snakes are supposed to have innate sensuality about them, and I think it shows most if you are born in the hour. -
-
Re: Snakes?
Sun, June 21, 2009 - 1:14 PMTruth you are a water snake born in the year of the fire snake. The day is the self. The hour is your aspiration in life you behave like a metal rooster a lot. In fact you have the signs of the trine the snake rooster ox in your horoscope which makes you even more sensual. I have two earth ox and water snake but I am a leo and for a Leo a rat influence is more desirable myself.
The self is the day of birth. This is the inner person which governs the individual actions.
the destiny is the month of birth. What you become in life
the aspiration or ascendant is the hour of birth. How you act in life.
the year is the outer self the ID. How you react to life.
Water snakes are by far the most sensual. Also the most dangerous. They possess true venom and can kill with a phrase of sarcasm.....or give and receive the highest pinnacle of sexual pleasure. Every water serpent is sexy. Those born in the year of the water serpent react most viciously to any affront if there is no other option or if their principles are violated. Also they are the most sexual of all the snakes.
This is the thing about snakes. Unlike any other sign of the zodiac they operate out of principle. Other signs do not thus the snake can appear as a vicious viper. But beauty my good people is in the eye of the beholder. In fact the truth is there is nothing more beautiful than the serpent or the kindest and most gregarious and generative. Just don't ever cross one if you have any hopes of living a decent life. Graveyards and mental hospitals are full of the victims of snake venom. -

Re: Snakes?
Mon, June 22, 2009 - 11:52 PMthis was a fun and interesting read but the reason i didn't feel like a snake is b/c i don't feel that i am vengeful.
i only do things to defend myself, but not outright do something venomous to someone.
but i do have a tendency to be very disapproving of Monkeys, and snakes don't get along w/monkeys.
i know few people that were born in the day of Monkeys and I really dislike their conniving and messy ways.
maybe b/c i was born in winter. i read that snakes born in winter time are more docile b/c that's when they hibernate.
spring and summer snakes are more lethal. i.e. Brooke Shields. i heard that Andre Agassi never won again after having dated Brooke.
the website i mentioned earlier stated that each pillar represents different aspect of our lives, like u mentioned, but more specific.
"Look more carefully at the month animal and element - these are said to represent the person's parents, siblings and childhood influences. The day Pillar represents one's marriage and adult life, and the hour Pillar represents one's children and living conditions in later life. Many Chinese astrologers consider the month pillar to be the most important one in determining the circumstances of one's life as adult life is the longest life period."
since my hour is metal rooster, that means i am going to have organized, neat but critical and delusions of grandeur kids in the future.
b/c that does not sound appealing at all.
i know a friend who is born in year of Tiger but day is Rabbit and hour is Ox. i would've never guessed he was Tiger year. but he acts like an Ox more than Rabbit - very judgmental, narrow minded and stubborn.
so when would u say u have become ur month animal? since it's ur destiny, is it just apparent after your passing?

Re: Snakes?
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 6:28 AMI am a wood snake (65) addicted to Fire Horses (any year breathing , moving and legal).
I have never followed attractions of my Sun sign unless you count a disastrous marriage to a geminii/boar)
I know I am supposed to be warmer and more risk taking than most snakes tho not as much energy as fire.
As my lifelong friend and love aged and I...it seems we are closer. So after 22 years.. we are truly together.
But I do get accidently trampled often under his knee-jerk spooking!
How can I slither up to a better position to hypnotize his
