I was wondering what your "Ascendants" are. What hour were you born in? And how does that affect your regular sign?

Hours:

Rat: 11pm - 12:59 am
Ox: 1am - 2:59 am
Tigger: 3am - 4:59am
Rabbit: 5am - 6:59 am
Dragon: 7am - 8:59am
Snake: 9am - 10:59 am
Horse: 11am - 12:59am
Sheep: 1pm - 2:59 pm
Monkey: 3pm - 4:59pm
Rooster: 5pm - 6:59pm
Dog: 7pm - 8:59pm
Pig: 9pm - 10:59pm

I want to know...
*your chinese astrology sign and Ascendant
* your western astrology sign and Ascendant

I'm a Pisces Sun and Virgo ascendant.

In the Chinese version, I'm not sure if my horary Ascendant is in Rooster or Monkey. I was born in the hours of the Rooster, according to the tables, but I'm not yet convinced that it is the local, and not universal time to be considered.

Besides, for a Snake, it's unusual to have as many Tiger crushes as I've had.

Western: Pisces Sun and Gemini Ascendant (I've heard that this Ascendant is supposed to be rare. o.O).
    Chinese: Dragon with Dragon Ascendant.

I find this somewhat weird, since I'm nothing like the Dragon. Perhaps my Western signs influence me more.

Hmm well if you are a pisces with a gemini rising I would think that you were born in the hour of the snake not the dragon.

Well, I was born at 8:30 AM. And I guess my birthplace influences my signs, too (Helsinki, Finland). And birth-year as well (1988). I consulted an astrologer at a health fair some time ago and she told me I was Gemini Rising. All online astrology sites tell me the same thing.

well. My ascendant is the dog also and I found that just reading thedescriptions for year of the dog works. You may just want to look up the astrological year of the dog and see if that description fits.

          Here's a small description I found from www.chinese-astrology.arollo.com/a...ml :
          The Hsu Hour.
The Dog’s hour lends a little more loyalty and humanitarian interest to the character, and those born at this time are incredibly likeable and attractive, in an unpretentious way. The need for materialism is toned down, but an unbending will is more prominent.

          Here's another from www.geomancy.net/astrology...o/tdog.htm :

The Dog Hour - 7.00 pm to 8.59 pm

A dog person has high value for justice, fairness and his principle.

Works hard to keep his friends for fear of rejection.

          Tries to achieve high goals.

Seldom takes risks and requires alot of emotional support and reassurance.

A good conversationalist and has a wide circle of friends.

the real truth is that we are all complex people. We feel like EVERYTHING we are. The MAIN thiong is our year of birth. Or in western astrology our sun sign.
We can see that western astrology and eastern astrology are simply put different but equal. Western astrology goes from the top down so to speak, if this makes sense to you. Eastern astrology goes from the bottom up.
In point of fact what I realize is that eastern astrology is the MOST accurate by far and especially when you meld the aspects to insure compatibility. See my post on this forum about compatibility and you will see the truth of the matter. ANYone with real compatibility will get along with ANYone else. Take this truth to heart and relay upon your heart and you will do wisely!, wealthily!, and well!

I agree that we feel every planet to some extent and even our chinese astrology signs down to the day. I like to take into consideration both eastern and western astrology. It gives me a better picture of someone when I look at both eastern and western signs.

Well, I just found out that I have a rabbit ascendant so I don't know as much about it as horse sign. I would have to say, I am most like a horse, although the blending of the two makes the most sense to describe me. Some of the qualities of rabbit and horse could be seen to overlap, the horse is known as being stylish and extravagant, the rabbit loves beauty. I think it is a good thing that I have rabbit ascendant to temper my horse energy a bit. I am born in 1978 so I am also lucky that I am tempered by being an EARTH horse. Thanks for asking!

Sure! I was just wondering becuase you have all that Sagittarius and the Rabbit and the Horse are not quite so outgoing I would think. I was just thinking about your eastern and western combination. The horse is the equivillant of Gemini and the Rabbit is Pisces.

Im a Wood Ox by the year, Water Snake by the day..... Snake by the hour.

Cancer Sun, Virgo Moon and Rising here....Cancer Mercury.

I really don't think it is that wise to blend the two systems together just because Chinese astrology uses a 5 element balance, not 4 elements.

I am a rat by year
and a rat by ascendant......does that make me an annoying perfectionist? Though I must admit that I don't fit much of the profile.
I'm very mellow, it takes a bit of effort to ruffle my fur, so to say. And I despise gossip.
I fear that Im a very poor rat

Don't forget: your day and your month factor in as well...

From my observations most people's personalities are heavilly influenced by their Day....

    I'm a (fire)Tiger with (fire)Dragon Ascendant (fiery!)
Western Astrology I'm Pisces with Aries Ascendant (fire and water)

I have a lot of fire going on for a Pisces.

In Chinese astrology, my day is Earth Monkey, though. It's weird because Monkey and Tiger do not go at all and Pisces and Aries are kind of a against each other too.

      Oh my!! Are you serious?

You are the rare breed of someone having four of the same animals.... amazing!!

I've always the best way to find certainty into understanding something is comparing with other examples.

Like as an example.... I took a lot of interest recently in examining my chinese day sing; the fire sheep.

I didn't give it much thought until I saw other people born in day of the sheep and foundundeniable similarities.

Basically, anyone born in the day of the sheep (like me) tend to live inside their head. All my life people have referred to me as 'the thinker' and I've never been the materialistic sort.
This is perfectly explained for the sheep and it would make sense being my hidden personality (the day sign)

I've also realised the relevance to my month sign but I still can't see much similarity to my year sign, the ox.

I can only see a very very vague pattern with peoples year sign. But I can see a very strong pattern in peoples day sign.

... rare breed... I'll take that as a compliment. :)

remember that even then, you're only looking at one facet of a person's personality or life. Even the year will have some effect to a person's personality, because it's the person's "first defense". :)

yes, days matter a lot, but what matters even more is the entire chart... just like western astrology. It's like looking at the moon sign only and saying this is what that person is. :)

When it comes to western astrology, I don't truly listen to a lot of it.

Rather than the theory of it being planets affecting us I find that ludicrous so I believe it's soley to do with the ID (moon sign) Ego (sun sign) and SuperEgo (ascendant). I see no point in all the rest.

When I analyse myself, I can immediately see the Taurus look and traits. Then I can also see the Capricorn moon influence for sure (Capricorn and Cancer moon people have rather placid features like me).
They say Taurens are typically chunky stout people unless they have a Gemini rising. My ascendant is Gemini and I am a tall, lean and lanky type of guy. 6ft 2 and 14 stone (used to be 12 stone before moving to London).

Other wise I see no need for the rest like Mercury, Mars Venus e.t.c. (Pluto was discovered to just be an asteroid for chrissakes.)

well, in Chinese astrology, all eight letters carry a weight of their own, and no element nor animal should be ignored for a complete analysis, even the element that doesn't "exist" in one's chart, the weak element, the strong element; everything is to seek balance, to weaken to strong, to strengthen the weak, and create a balanced life; thus all eight letters will have to be looked at wholly because I tell you now, a person born on a Fire Sheep day at night will differ in personality, appearance, and everything else from a person born on a Fire Sheep day at mid-day, evening, morning. Not to mention, the time of the year, the year itself, everything really does count; I think that's why Chinese astrology is very complicated; a lot of rules, a lot of special rules, and more rules.

(as for pluto, I believe it's now named dwarf planet or trans-neptunian objects. :))
