what are everyones ascendants? as in the animal aspect according to the hours of birth, which some would say is more accurately described as the shadow self as opposed to the classical western concept of the ascendant
For example, I was born between 11 PM and 1 Am, the hours of the Rat, so I'm a Tiger/Rat, which is why I hope to fare better than most Tigers in the year of my archnemesis the Monkey, since Rats are part of a friendship/compatability trine with the Monkey and the Dragon. Knowing your ascendant helps in relationships too when you know the others ascendant.

Re: ascendants
Wed, February 4, 2004 - 11:33 AMFreyja, that means you're ascendant is the rooster. Which makes you an even spunkier rabbit. The rooster being your direct opposite, it also makes you a study in contrasts. You're bolder than most rabbits, and speak your mind moreso. You aslo get along better with Snakes, Ox's and Roosters moreso than most rabbits.

Re: ascendants
Thu, January 29, 2004 - 6:33 AMHey Soul Brother- I'm a Tiger w/ Rat Ascendant too.
I don't feel threatened by the Monkeys, or their year. I find that if we generally stay out of each others' way, all will be well. But those Monkeys sure do like to rock boats and pull tails...

Re: ascendants
Sat, September 22, 2007 - 2:07 PMI have this old book about chinese astrology, that,in addition to the monthly and horary ascendants, speaks about a "millennial ascendant"...or something like that.
In the book there is a page to help u calculate it;it's divided into 3 columns:
-the one on the left shows the months of the year, with all the dates,
-the one on the middle is divided into 2:on the right, the ascendant, and on the left, the midheaven(the chinese signs, enumerated),
-the one on the right shows the hours of the day.
You're supposed to unite your approximate day of birth, from the left column, with your hour of birth,on the right column. The place where the line intersects with the middle-column is supposed to point out your millennial ascendant and midheaven.
HAS ANYONE HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THIS?PLEASE,TELL!AND GIVE LINKS!

Re: ascendants
Thu, February 19, 2004 - 2:21 PMIt has to do with something called "The Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches." It's a sixty year cycle of heavenly movement. It gets really really deep - I don't understand much of it, but it relates also to the Yi Jing (I Ching), and a whole host of other stuff in Chinese philosophy.
If you want to compute your Chinese Astrological chart, check out a book called "Treasures of Tao" by David Twicken. The organization of the material is a little confusing at times, but all the information you need to do your chart is in there. To get into the I ching/heavenly stems-earthly branches connection, you want to look at "The Book of Changes and the Unchanging Truth" by Hua Ching Ni. -

Re: ascendants
Thu, March 18, 2004 - 8:57 AMWait... The post seems incomplete...
Here are the ascendant hours for everyone:
11 pm to 1 am: Rat
1 am to 3 am: Ox
3 am to 5 am: Tiger
5 am to 7 am: Rabbit
7 am to 9 am: Dragon
9 am to 11 am: Snake
11 am to 1 pm: Horse
1 pm tp 3 pm: Sheep
3 pm to 5 pm: Monkey
5 pm to 7 pm: Rooster
7 pm to 9 pm: Dog
9pm to 11pm??? I was born at 9:33pm. What's my Ascendant then?
I'm a wood-Tiger-what?
And do Ascendants have modifying elements too? -

Re: ascendants
Thu, March 18, 2004 - 4:35 PMGee, I'm not sure how to feel about that...
wouldn't a tiger eat a boar? For that matter, I think the tiger would probably eat my western sign too -Pisces. heh
So anyway, if I'm a wood tiger, would the boar also be modified by wood? Or would it have it's own element? -
-
Re: ascendants
Fri, March 19, 2004 - 8:18 AMgoodness ... all very confusing ...
if the birth date (year, month, dayofweek), hour, element, ascendant, all effect our chinese animal signs ...
then how do you get more specific ?!?!?!???
-
Re: ascendants
Wed, March 31, 2004 - 2:51 PMThe boar would have it's own element.
As a note, each "animal" has it's natural elemental affinity, then there's the element of the actual time.

Re: ascendants
Wed, March 31, 2004 - 2:56 PMThe hour pillar, or ascendant as it seems to be called here has the same cycle of sixty stem branch combinations as the year.
Depending on what day you were born on, the hour will be modified by one of the five elements.
This stuff is not easily done in the head, so if you want to calculate it, you're either going to need a book with some tables, or a trustworthy internet site.

Re: ascendants
Tue, March 23, 2004 - 11:48 PMthere are four cycles of sixty in constant rotation in the chinese cycle. The only way to calculate what it was on your day is to know what it was on another day, then count forward. the cycle of sixty starts with woodrat, then wood ox then fire tiger, fire rabbit, earth dragon... etc.
The hour of the day give the ascendant without much fuss, but remember to keep daylight savings time in mind.
Hope that helps a little.
