How do you count element influence in Chinese Astrology?

I just had a free sample done, according to which I have 5 fire units, 3 earth units, 2 Wood units, 2 Metal units, and no Water. The same sample also lists my influences as an Earth Snake, by year, Fire Rabbit, by month, and Metal Sheep, by day.

here's the link, if you wanna get yours done: my7s.astrology.com/scripts/runisa.dll

I'm in the same boat as you in terms of understanding it fully but I think I know some stuff that you'd find useful.

Mind you, I got work tomorrow and need sleep. I'll explain to you the stuff I know soon :D

and to further on what chris said, I know that me and you would not get along since we don't balance each other out.

You have no water and loads of fire..... like me. We'd be considered too similar which means no genuine attraction (we'd identify our strengths in each other easily though).

yeah, but compatibility is also about which sign matches which, right? I mean, it's not all boiled down to which elements predominate...

And what does it mean, anyway, to have fire for your predominant element? It can't be the same as western astrology, cause i have virtually no fire in my western chart, and I don't feel fiery, either.

One thing I didn't get about that sample is that it called my elements balanced, and that I was lucky, but how can they be balanced, if I have 0 water units, and 5 fire units? I did the charts for a few friends of mine, one of which had 2 fire, 4 earth, 3 wood, 3 metal, and 0 water, and called that combination "slightly unbalanced"..then how is mine "balanced, and lucky"? I don't get it.

I don't want to overload you with the onfo I've learnt too but I'll tell you one thing you rarely find explained properly. Each element is really a representation of your internal organs.

You have a lot of fire so you have a good healthy heart but lack of water means a weak bladder.
metal = lungs, wood = liver, earth = spleen.

Fire in western is mostly to do with agression, action and general extraversion.
Fire in chinese is just supposed to be a representation of Joy.

Me, I have a lot of Fire so I'm quite a jovial character. Especially compared to other Taurens who are a lot more serious and grumpy.

hope that gives you a bit more of an idea

I tested the site out too. I am balanced too and got curious and did whole report. i'm not considered lucky overall tho, have to work for rewards in my life. I think it's different getting little glimpse versus a full report.

You'd LOVE me a water serpent. We seek balance so you should logically look for a water serpent to round out your trine of ox and rooster. Water is the element missing from your makeup so it is what you would seek. We seek a balance of the 5 elements in our relationships and in life.

"We seek a balance of the 5 elements in our relationships and in life. "

you mean this applies to that feng shui stuff, as well? Is that why I like having a fish tank in my house? I've been obsessed with having water arrangements in the house since I was a little girl.

But about Snake men...funny you should mention that, the few of them I met in person managed to catch my eye. I feel attracted to them, but, at the same time, I feel they'd piss me off in the long run, because of our similarities. We "play the same game", a lot of the time..and, on top of that, they seem to be blinded by pride and male ego, which pisses me off and makes me impatient.

Then, there's the thing about idealizing women-a lot of them are openly womanizing, which makes me even more impatient, and question their right state of mind..lol.

But, overall, they're pretty sexy, and definitely seem to have a way with women. the few I've known were very popular amongst women. My fave was a Fire Snake I knew in my early teens..
I wonder if it's likely thaat two people of the same sign can have a harmonious relationship, though..

It is very likely. In fact when goals are clearly defined snake snake is very compatible. Thing is you know what you're getting into. Play the game LOL thats for the prey not for serious lovers.
The 5 elements are best set into balance. Thus you have a missing water element and other elements too which need to be brought into balance for the individual to be happy. A member of the opposite sex who brings compatible signs and elements is said to have good chemistry. In fact that is what it is.
Water is what you are fascinated with because it is what you are missing. In your character. Try this. For fun. Punch in july 24 1953 and your birthday over at

and see what result you get.

Ok snake and snake are all about fixing things for each other. (Snakes tend to fix things with relationships) IF there is not good compatibility then they are not good with each other at all and would only serve to irritate each other. Since a snake cannot really hurt another snake it only gets irritating.
Snake and dog that are not very compatible (us) would mean that while snake would do everything the dog would want, the dog would not reciprocate after leading the snake on. THEN the fireworks would REALLY go off in a fit of snake frustration. Count yourself lucky if the snake is gentleman to let you know ahead of time like I just did.
Snakes and dragons are karmic animals. Their luck in life is determined with what tact and justice they treat others with. So dear snakes just because you ARE dangerous might mean you only have to explain and show that you cannot be trifled with. Then if the prospective prey continues to harass you they DESERVE what they get.

    well..ummm..
I did not get a lot of insight from that site,
nor was it enough to even half interest me into buying in for more of the same.
Supposedly mostly balanced 4/3,3/1,1/ Maybe if I was writing a haiku?

Wow..some coincidences to my western chart

Your are Red Horse, born in the year of Green Snake, Autumn time.

The year is the information about your ancestor. ..............(Green Snake/Female Wood)-My dad was a snake and was mom&dad combined
The month is the information about your parents. ..............(Male Fire/Red Dog)
The hour is to do with your children. .....................................(Fem Water/Black Snake)- My kids are water signs
The day represents you with your spouse's information. ...(Male Fire/Red Horse) - Hunny is a Fire Horse

Because the first character in day is Fire, you are equivalent to Fire. We can find the outline of your entire life from the major 10-year cycles and the weight of your Five Elements. Your first fate cycle is at age 6. After understanding your Five Elements weights from the following chart, you can find your major decade cycles from here to figure out the best years in your life.

Fire (you) Soil (kids) Metal (money) Water (job) Wood (mom)
        Total 91 79 46 45 23

        # The Ying-Yang Five Elements describe the BALANCE. If your Five Elements are almost evenly distributed, you are one of the luckiest people in the world since Five Elements are balanced. But for most people the Five Elements are out of balance. The key to get more luck and success is to balance the Five Elements. When they are in balance, they are peaceful and you are too. When they are out of balance, they will fight and you will be in trouble. So your lucky elements are the ones that can bring the Five Elements into balance. Usually the lucky elements are the ones with a lesser weight (score).

Wood has a lesser weight. If you find your lucky elements in your major fate cycle or on certain years, you can determine that those years are your lucky years.
#Mom(Wood) and you (Fire) are friend.
#Money (Metal) and job (Water) are foe.
You and your friend fight with your foe. If you and mom win (bigger score), money works for you. If you lose, you work for money. If you win, you will make more money when you find Metal (money) or Water (job) in the fate cycle or on certain years. If you lose, you still can earn money when you find Fire (you) or Wood (Mom) in the fate cycle or in certain years. Because brings the Five Elements into BALANCE.

All the Fire describes my base personality. My Leo Moon holds heavy sway despite Cardinal/Mutable Air in Sun /ASC.
My mother figure brought great prosperity and my actual mother and I do well financially when we pull together in hard times.
Not figured the decades cycle yet. At a glance it doesn't look like good times rollin for me until I am too old to enjoy it personally. :(
The rest is uphill all the way
